Cameras and Equipments:
While choosing the camera for winter photography, just keep these three words in your minds: keep-it-simple. Many photographers may be using the compact cameras, but it can be annoying to have only one lens (generally wide-angle lens) or zoom lens that seems useful but ends up by not being so sharp. You need a camera that at least has an exposure compensation setting. Most of the leading camera brands have a mode for winter photography to shoot pictures in winter.

If you are using a camera with interchangeable lenses, carry a telephoto zoom and wide angle zoom. If you don't like zoom lenses, you can use wide angle lens and medium telephoto lens. Leave the normal 50mm lens at home and you may be surprised by seeing the improvement in your shots. Use filters on your lenses to protect them, skylight filters can be the best choice.
If you can't live without tripod, carry it with you. Remember that you are going to shoot for winter photography, so avoid carrying super light tripods because they might not be able to face the blowing winds.
Even with the proper camera adaptation, shooting a winter photograph, can be difficult. Without proper equipments and preparation, your battery may be too cold to give a life to your camera. This can be prevented in various ways. The simplest way to do this is to carry an extra battery. Try using an external battery pack as it powers the camera through a chord. Get the batteries that can perform well in winter: rechargeable Nickel Metal Hydride, rechargeable Nicad or Lithium.
